These delicious Energy Bites require no baking, so they are perfect for making together with children. My kids love creating these tasty treats just about as much as they love eating them. Whether you make them by yourself or gather a whole crew together, get ready for some finger-licking goodness (just make sure to save the finger-licking until after you’ve made the last ball!)
In our family, we especially enjoy making Easy Cinnamon, Flax, and Dark Chocolate Festive Energy Bites at Christmas time. It’s nice to have a “healthy-ish” treat to snack on (or, let’s be honest – to have as a grab-and-go breakfast on a rushed morning!). But feel free to use whatever color of M&Ms you prefer, and make these yummy energy ball treats a year-round treat.
What You’ll Need to Make Easy Cinnamon, Flax, and Dark Chocolate Festive Energy Bites:
- 2 ½ cup old fashioned oats
- ½ cup honey
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- ¼ cup ground flax seed (optional)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate morsels
- ½ cup red and green M&M’s (tip: swap out the red and green for any other color variation to make these bites a year-round treat!)
How to Make Easy Cinnamon, Flax, and Dark Chocolate Energy Bites:
In a large mixing bowl (here’s the one I’m using), add each of the ingredients. Stir together until everything is combined and the mixture forms a loose ball (you can do a quick final mix with your hands before shaping the balls, but do try and minimize the amount you handle the mixture, as the color may start to come off of the candies).
Next, dampen your hands slightly with water (this is important to prevent all that gooey goodness from sticking to your hands!) and begin forming into golf-sized balls. Place the balls onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper, or directly into a storage container, separating the layers with parchment paper. Cover and chill for one hour until the balls are firm. Store refrigerated for up to one week (but they probably won’t last that long!).
