Cranberry Christmas Cookies Mix-in-a-Jar
Some foods just say “Holidays,” and this Cranberry Christmas Cookies Mix-in-a-jar is one of them! They are so pretty, with tiny bits of white chocolate and red cranberry peaking out of each melt-in-your-mouth cookie. Cookies that are simple to make, but taste fancy! What a wonderful, thoughtful gift for friends and family, because who doesn’t love Christmas cookies, especially when half the work is already done for us!

The ingredients look pretty layered in a jar for gift-giving, so this recipe is perfect for a DIY gift-in-a-jar for teachers, friends, hostesses, or really anyone who has a sweet tooth. And can I let you in on a little secret? Even though these delightful cookies are lovely at Christmas time, there is no rule that you can’t whip up a batch in the middle of summer, too!
For each batch, you will need a one-quart jar. If you don’t have any on hand, you can certainly buy some brand new, but I’ve also had success finding nice jars at thrift stores and yard sales. I like to keep an eye out for them all year round so that I have an ample supply on hand for gift giving at Christmas (if you need another Gift-in-a-Jar idea, check out these Winter Survival Kits!).
Here’s what you’ll need:
Cranberry and White Chocolate Christmas Cookies (Gift-in-a-Jar version)
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup old fashioned oats
½ cup dried cranberries
½ cup white chocolate chips
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup white sugar
½ cup chopped cashews
Directions for you:
In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Layer into the bottom of a clean and dry one-quart jar. (A large funnel makes this super easy! Here is the one that I use).
Next, add the oats, cranberries, and white chocolate chips in layers. Then add a layer of brown sugar and a layer of white sugar. Finish by adding the chopped cashews.
Put on a lid (you can get as fancy or plain as you want here), attach a gift tag with the mixing and baking instructions, and your gift of Cranberry Christmas Cookies is ready!
(If you have some cute lids on hand, great! You can also cover the jar with plastic wrap and then make it pretty with a felt circle cut to fit).
Directions for the recipient: (Include these on a handwritten gift tag or you can print off a sheet of 4 beautiful ready-made labels).
What you’ll need:
½ cup (one stick) butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
Preheat oven to 350°. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. In a mixing bowl, stir together the contents of the jar.
In a separate bowl, add the softened butter, vanilla, and egg. Cream together with a whisk or hand beater until well mixed and fluffy.
Next, add the creamed mixture to the flour mixture and gently stir together until everything is well mixed.
Lastly, drop the dough by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or just until the edges begin to turn golden. Let the cookies cool for a couple of minutes on the baking sheet before removing them to finish cooling on a wire rack before storing in an airtight container.
I know you’ll love these yummy cookies and that they will make an excellent gift for your loved ones.
