Gather your ingredients!

This method of cooking rice shaves a few minutes off of the cooking time, but the biggest win for me is that I no longer have to deal with rice burning to the bottom of my pan, or the rice boiling over because I didn’t turn the heat quite low enough, or taste testing it along the way to make sure it is fully cooked. If you own an Instant Pot, you’ll love using it for cooking rice, and if you don’t yet own one, but cook a lot of rice, you may want to buy one for that reason alone (not that there aren’t a gazillion other reasons to have an Instant Pot in your kitchen equipment arsenal!).

What you’ll Need for Making Perfect Long Grain White Rice in YOur Instant Pot:

4 cups water

3 cups enriched long-grain white rice

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons coconut oil or butter

Directions for Making Perfect Instant Pot Rice:

Add all ingredients to the 6 quart instant pot. Stir to mix in the salt, and then put the lid in place, making sure that the steam valve is in the sealing position. Select the Pressure Cook setting, and set the timer for 8 minutes on High. Refer to your owner’s manual if you are new to using your pressure cooker and not familiar with your machine’s settings.

Once the cooking time has completed, carefully release the pressure manually. Once pressure has released, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork. Now you’re ready for dinner (or breakfast…did you know that rice makes a delicious breakfast cereal? Just add brown sugar, cinnamon, a scoop of raisins, and a splash of milk, and you’re all set!)

Tip: Got leftover rice? Rice is one of the easiest foods to freeze and is so versatile and handy. Frozen rice can be added to soup, turned into fried rice, warmed in the microwave to use as a side dish with stir fry, and so many other uses!

Here are some delicious ideas of what to serve with rice:

Sheet Pan Meatballs

Easy Homemade Sweet and Sour Sauce

Fried Sauerkraut and Sausage
